The Verbatio Chrome extension ("the extension") is a dictionary lookup and flashcard tool for language learners. This policy describes what data it handles. The short version: your data stays on your device or in your own Google Drive, and we never see it.
When you select a word on a webpage, the extension reads that word and the sentence around it in order to show a dictionary definition. This happens locally in your browser. Nothing is transmitted anywhere at lookup time; dictionary lookups run against dictionary files stored on your device.
When you choose "Add to flashcards", the extension writes one small file containing the selected word, the sentence it appeared in, the meaning you chose, the language pair, the page address and title, and a timestamp. That file is written to the hidden application data area of your own Google Drive, which only the Verbatio applications can access. The Verbatio mobile app reads it from there during its sync and turns it into a flashcard.
The extension also stores, locally in your browser: your language settings, downloaded dictionary files, and a temporary queue of flashcards waiting to be uploaded when you are offline.
It does not read pages beyond the text you select. It does not collect browsing history. It contains no analytics, no advertising, and no trackers. It never sends data to Verbatio - the project operates no servers that receive user data. It does not sell or share any data with anyone.
Google Drive (googleapis.com): only when you connect your Google account and save flashcards, and only to the per-app hidden data area of your own Drive, under the narrow "drive.appdata" authorization. Google's own privacy policy governs your Google account.
GitHub (github.com): one-time downloads of dictionary files when you install a dictionary pack. These downloads carry no personal data beyond the ordinary technical facts of an HTTP request.
You can remove downloaded dictionaries and disconnect Google Drive at any time from the extension options. Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data. Flashcard files in your Google Drive app data are managed by the Verbatio mobile app; you can delete all app data from your Google account settings under "Third-party apps & services".
